GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) — An investigation into forgery led to the arrest of a 63-year-old Goose Creek woman, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
On March 17, deputies with Berkeley County met with someone from the Oxford House in Goose Creek after check stubs went missing. During the investigation, detectives learned that Brenda Carol Byrd lived at the Oxford house and was in a recovery program. Those detectives eventually found nine forged checks made payable to Byrd.
At the time, she was working as the treasurer for the Oxford House and allegedly had access to the checkbook, which was locked inside a filing cabinet. Between February and March, a total of $2,800.72 was taken, law enforcement said…
