Man ended up at the body farm. His family says Knox County never called.

The family of a Knox County man who died after a brief stay in the county jail says his body was donated to a University of Tennessee “body farm” without their knowledge or permission.

By the time the family recovered the body of Carlos Daniel Reitz Mucarsel, they say in a federal civil rights lawsuit, it was so badly decomposed, they were unable to hold a typical funeral and were forced to have Mucarsel cremated.

The family also says the Knox County Sheriff’s Office jail staff gave Mucarsel the wrong medication when he arrived severely intoxicated in March 2025 and ignored his failing health as he suffered seizures from alcohol withdrawal…
