PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Shawndell Burney-Speaks has been waiting nearly nine years for justice for her late son.
That justice was finally served Tuesday, when the man who investigators believe murdered 22-year-old Devin Burney was taken into custody.
“I’ve thought about this day for many years,” Burney-Speaks said, adding that she “started to lose hope at year five.”
