VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A proposal to rezone 86 acres of the Villages at West Neck community to build age-restricted homes and a revitalized 9-hole golf course received City Council approval Tuesday.
By a 9-2 vote, which followed a lengthy public hearing, council voted in favor of rezoning the property to develop what’s being called The Preserve at West Neck, which is set to include 143 single-family homes for those ages 55 and up, along with the 9-hole course.
City planning staff had recommended denying the request, “finding the proposal inconsistent with the density and open space recommendations of the Transition Area Design Guidelines,” though staff did say the architectural design of the new project “aligns with the rural transitional character” that’s encouraged in the Transition area Design guidelines.
It also said infrastructure impacts were manageable and minimizes school school impacts due to the age restrictions of the development, and said the design of the project was “thoughtful.”
