Metro Council approves penalties for drag racing spectators

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – East Baton Rouge officials approved a new ordinance Wednesday that penalizes anyone who livestreams or promotes drag races.

Officials said the current ordinance on drag racing has been effective, but they believe adding tougher penalties for people organizing and filming these events will help discourage them altogether.

Drag racing in East Baton Rouge has gone down, according to law enforcement, after tougher penalties were passed in 2022. But Metro Councilman Rowdy Gaudet said it’s still happening, and now he wants to go after the crowd that helps it grow…
