The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences launches a six-year bachelor’s to medical degree program

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Officials with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences said they have created an accelerated pathway for students to earn medical degrees.

UAMS officials said they are joining the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, in a program that will allow high school students to progress from graduation to a medical degree in six years. When the program welcomes its inaugural cohort beginning in fall 2027, it will become only the third program in the United States to offer a streamlined six-year bachelor’s-to-MD pathway, they said.

Preference will go to Arkansas residents, officials said, followed by students from neighboring states and then strong applicants from across the country. The first cohort will be capped at 20 students.
