Pre-Dawn Blaze Jolts Kingsbridge Heights Block In The Bronx

An early morning fire tore through a multi-story house in Kingsbridge Heights on Thursday, sending ladder trucks racing down Creston Avenue as thick smoke woke neighbors from their sleep. Video shared online showed firefighters working off an aerial ladder to reach the top floor while crews fought the flames in the dark pre-dawn hours. By mid-morning, the block had mostly quieted, with only investigators and utility workers remaining at the scene.

According to News 12 New York, FDNY units were called to 2756 Creston Ave, between East 196th and East 197th streets, at about 1:45 a.m., with nearly 80 firefighters and EMS personnel responding. The department told the outlet that the fire appeared to be concentrated on the top floor and that no injuries were reported. Officials said the cause remains undetermined and that fire marshals will continue to investigate.

FDNY Warns About Battery-Related Blazes

The FDNY has repeatedly cautioned that lithium-ion batteries, which are used in e-bikes, scooters and many household devices, can ignite and sometimes re-ignite even after a fire seems to be out. Neighbors told reporters they were rattled by the surge of sirens and emergency vehicles, yet grateful that no one was hurt.
