Police warn of carjackings where suspects intentionally strike victims’ vehicles

BALTIMORE, MD—The Baltimore Police Department is warning residents of a rising carjacking trend involving a “bump-and-rob” strategy used by groups of suspects to target unsuspecting motorists.

According to a public safety alert issued by the department, the tactic involves suspects following or targeting a vehicle and intentionally striking it, often from behind. When the driver exits the vehicle to inspect the damage, the suspects approach and threaten the victim before stealing the car.

Police officials advised drivers to remain inside their vehicles after a minor crash if the situation feels suspicious. In these instances, motorists are encouraged to call 911 immediately and, if possible, drive to a well-lit and populated area…
