MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. — A man charged in connection with a double homicide and arson in Mathews County has pleaded guilty and been sentenced to decades in prison, according to court records and prosecutors.
33-year-old Carol Paul Cormier Jr. received a total of 48 years and five months of active incarceration, including eight years of mandatory time. Additional life sentences were suspended as part of the plea agreement.
Cormier pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, arson of an occupied dwelling, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and two counts of desecration of a body. Other charges were dropped as part of the agreement, and all sentences will run consecutively…
