Rochester firefighters rescue person from fire at boarded-up home

Rochester, N.Y. — Firefighters rescued a person from a fire at a vacant home on the city’s north side Thursday, according to the Rochester Fire Department.

Lt. Howard Villegas said a company was en route to another incident at 4:38 a.m. when firefighters saw heavy smoke pouring from a boarded-up home on Eiffel Place.

Villegas said firefighters began removing plywood boards to get inside when they heard someone inside the house yelling for help. Firefighters quickly removed the person, who was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for evaluation…
