‘Give us praise, give us criticism’: Wilmington police report drop in 2025 crime stats

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Overall crime fell across most categories in Wilmington last year, according to data released by the Wilmington Police Department (WPD).

Still, department leaders say the drop doesn’t mean demand on officers is easing.

According to WPD data, 2025 saw:

  • 16% reduction in overall crime
  • 20% reduction in larceny calls
  • 22% reduction in motor vehicle theft
  • 17% reduction in violent crime overall
  • A significant drop in property crime
  • Fewer rapes and aggravated assaults
