UL Lafayette faculty and staff could lose access to basic office supplies through the end of the fiscal year, as part of sweeping spending restrictions that included cutting monthly credit card limits for approved expenses in half.
Need printer ink or toner? Paper or chalk? Brochures for academic programs? Travel for research? Whether staff and faculty can pay for those expenses now depends on how they’re funded.
“Faculty and graduate students might not be able to travel to conferences to present their research, and students also might not be able to travel or perform fieldwork,” says Leah Orr, who heads the university’s English Department and serves as president of the UL Faculty Senate. “New faculty trying to spend their start-up funds to stock their labs and offices might not be able to buy what they need…
