A routine Wednesday night commute in downtown Clayton turned deadly when a Metro Transit bus struck a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk, killing a 52-year-old woman, according to Clayton police. Officers said the woman was crossing South Central Avenue at Forsyth Boulevard as the bus made a left turn. First responders immediately began life-saving efforts when they arrived, and she was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries. She died the following morning.
Officers were told the collision happened at about 8 p.m., and that the woman was in the crosswalk when she was hit, as reported by KSDK. Metro Transit is cooperating with the investigation, and Clayton police said St. Louis County’s accident-reconstruction team is assisting as detectives work to understand how the crash unfolded. The department noted that the victim’s name will be released once her family has been notified.
