Thursday’s Five Facts

[1] Unified Fire: Evacuations lifted, power restored – The Unified Fire remains 0% contained. It sparked Tuesday before noon near the Bosque and several homes east of Jarales. As of now, there are no injuries, and no structures have burned. Along with PNM restoring power to the area, fire managers have also lifted evacuations. About 500 acres have burned so far on both sides of the Rio Grande. The state forestry division says crews are expecting stronger winds over the next few days that could feed the fire. Fire managers are warning locals that even though they’ve lifted evacuations, those could always come back depending on how conditions change.

[2] ABQ man charged for his role in shooting that left his friend dead – Police say on March 4, Sean Martin and Jeremy Muñoz fired 14 shots at a Hummer along Aztec Rd., north of Candelaria Rd. Martin’s ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend were inside. No one was hurt, and the people in the Hummer went to a friend’s house. Police said a passenger in that Hummer later found Martin and Muñoz, shooting and killing Martin. APD has not yet named that gunman, but police have arrested Muñoz for the first shooting, charging him with attempted murder and other crimes.

[3] Triple-digit heat possible in South New Mexico before cooldown – Another round of record heat returns Thursday. Winds pick up Thursday afternoon across New Mexico, bringing a critical fire danger. By the afternoon, winds could gust anywhere from 25 to 45 mph with humidity as low as 4%.
