COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) — New data presented to Richland County leaders this week shows the vast majority of inmates at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center are still awaiting trial – and many of them have been jailed for months.
The figures were shared during Tuesday’s meeting of the Richland County Detention Center Ad Hoc Committee, where officials said there are now nearly 300 more detainees awaiting trial than there were four years ago.
According to the report, more than 902 inmates at the jail are currently classified as awaiting trial and under the control of the solicitor’s office. Tuesday’s report also listed the jail’s total population to be 1,011…
