GUSTINE — Portuguese heritage and Catholic tradition took center stage in Gustine this weekend as the GPS Pentecost Society hosted the 2026 Pentecost Presentation of the Queens, a long‑standing cultural celebration that continues to unite families across generations.
The highlight of the evening was the introduction of the incoming Pentecost Queen, Kylee Lopes, who spoke about the deep personal meaning behind her role. Lopes said her path to the crown was shaped by the influence of her grandmother, Ava Lopes, whose guidance instilled both cultural pride and faith.
“Something that inspired me is my Ava Lopes,” she said. “She raised me and taught me about my heritage, and I’ve been doing this ever since. It has also been a way to strengthen my faith.”…
