‘It was just … gone’: Chimney Rock ice cream shop returns after Helene’s destruction

CHIMNEY ROCK, N.C. (WLOS) — On Sept. 27, 2024, Helene completely changed the landscape of Chimney Rock Village, as flood waters swept away businesses, including a staple for ice cream lovers: Village Scoop.

The shop was completely gone after the storm. Through many months of hard work, the shop was able to hold a soft opening on the one-year anniversary of the storm. Now, 18 months after Helene, the shop has fully recovered and is anticipating some of its busiest months ahead with spring and summer, according to owner Jessie Callaway.

Callaway was worried her shop might never open after she saw what was left immediately following the storm.

“It was just . . . gone,” Callaway told News 13 on March 26. “After the storm, you wouldn’t even know anything had been there before.”…
