NYPD faces lawsuit over alleged failure to stop synagogue mob attack

City attorneys are seeking to dismiss a federal lawsuit that accuses police of failing to intervene in a mob attack, arguing the Constitution does not require officers to protect people from attacks by other civilians, Gothamist reported.

The filing is in response to a suit brought by Amanda Luci, who says NYPD officers stood by as a group of young men and boys attacked her outside a Crown Heights synagogue on April 24, 2025.
