FIRST ALERT – Frost Threat Sunday Morning After Record Heat Friday

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Western Carolinas experiences a dramatic weather roller coaster over the next week, starting with near-record heat Friday and plummeting to frost and freeze conditions Sunday morning. The swing from record-breaking warmth to freezing temperatures poses a significant threat to gardens, crops, and spring plans.

Friday: Unseasonably Hot With Scattered Showers

Anomalously warm air dominates Friday, pushing temperatures into the mid-to-upper 80s across the Upstate and low 80s in the mountains. We are forecasting a high of 88° in Greenville which would break the current record of 86°. In the mountains, the forecast high is 81° which would be just south of the record high of 85°.

It’s a breezy day with winds gusting 20 to 25 mph so make sure all your loose items are tied down.

A cold front approaches from the north during the afternoon and evening, triggering scattered showers. The showers fire up in the mountains after 4 PM and after midnight in the Upstate.

Rain amounts remain light—don’t expect much relief from the recent dry conditions.

What to do: Enjoy the warmth, but keep an eye on the sky this evening. If you’re heading out, keep an umbrella handy.

Saturday-Sunday: Gusty Winds, Fire Danger, and Frost Threat

The cold front sweeps through Friday night, ushering in big changes. Strong, gusty north winds develop Friday night and intensify Saturday morning, with gusts reaching 30 mph or higher. These winds taper off through Saturday afternoon…
