WINCHESTER, Ky. (FOX 56) — An employee with the Winchester Fire Department (WFD) has been arrested, according to the city’s chief of police, after the alleged discovery of fraudulent payroll overtime entries going back over a year.
On March 25, leaders with the fire department reached out to Chief Travis Thompson of the Winchester Police Department about potential payroll fraud by an employee, later identified as Kenneth Ball, per a Thursday news release.
A “self-initiated internal audit” allegedly revealed that Ball used “a large amount of overtime” over the past 13 months, and investigators noted that Ball wasn’t even there on days the overtime had been claimed.
