MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A man has been sentenced to more than 48 years of active jail time, including eight years of mandatory time, after pleading guilty to first-degree murder and arson in connection to the July 2025 deaths of two people, the Mathews County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office said Thursday.
Carol Paul Cormier Jr. pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, arson of an occupied dwelling, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and two counts of desecration of a body.
