History of the Browning Building in Stuart

The Browning Building stood at the corner of Ocean Boulevard (formerly East Fourth Street) and Flagler Avenue in Stuart. Built by George Browning in March 1926 for Browning Motors, it later housed several uses, including a WPA sewing program, a youth center, and a car dealership. The A&P Super Market occupied the first floor from 1945 to 1962, after which Martin County used the building for offices and storage. The structure was demolished in 1989 and replaced with a park.
