Dog run over as dirt bikers flee through Oakland

(KRON) — A police helicopter was tracking a group of dirt bike and ATV riders fleeing from police when one person in the group ran over a dog, police said.

“For several weeks, the Oakland Police Department has monitored a group of dirt bike and ATV riders illegally riding in our community,” OPD wrote.

On March 2, officers responded to reports of illegal dirt bikes and ATVs on city streets. “A rider attempted to rob and carjack a victim in the 5400 block of Telegraph Avenue. A patrol officer witnessed the incident and arrested the suspect. Other group members briefly surrounded the officer, and one suspect tried to kick the officer before leaving the area with the other riders,” OPD wrote.

From the air, an OPD helicopter followed the group as riders fled and escaped from officers on the ground. “During this time, one rider hit a dog and kept going. The dog received treatment for its injuries,” the police department wrote.

Officers served multiple search warrants on March 23 in Pittsburg, Antioch, and Brentwood. The warrants led to the arrests of suspects…
