Family remembers “Tae Tae” as community calls for change

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines community is mourning a young woman found dead this week in an apartment on the city’s south side.

A vigil is planned for 8 p.m. Thursday at the Flats on Fifth apartment complex near Southridge Mall. Organizers say the theme and message for the vigil is “You Are Not Alone.”

Police identified the victim as 33-year-old Des Moines resident Martasha Jordane Paris McKenzie. Family and friends said they called her “Tae Tae.” They described her as a mother who was active in the community…
