Springfield utility customers to see higher summer electric bills as costs rise

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Customers of City Utilities of Springfield can expect higher electric bills this summer, with average monthly costs projected to increase by about $14 compared to last year.

City Utilities said the increase is driven by a combination of higher fuel costs and a previously approved rate adjustment that takes effect April 1.

Officials said the utility experienced an estimated $8 million shortfall over the winter due to higher-than-expected fuel costs, including spikes during Winter Storm Fern. To recover those costs, the average residential customer will see an increase of about $9.45 per month over the next six months…
