[1] The vision and plans APD’s new chief has for the future of the department – Within her first 100 days, Chief Cecily Barker says she wants to increase officer presence in the city. She also wants to increase transparency within the department. Barker says she wants to implement a score cared process to review performance and possible complaints from within the chain of command.

[2] Texas House Speaker wants state to look into annexing NM counties on state line – Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows posted his interim committee charges on Thursday, which serve as a to-do list for the next legislative session. In it, he hints at the idea of annexing new Mexico counties along the state line. In the governmental oversight section of the document, Speaker Burrows said he wants to “study the constitutional, statutory, fiscal and economic implications of adding to Texas one or more contiguous counties of New Mexico.” New Mexico House Speaker Javier Martinez (D) gave a fiery response.

[3] Chilly in eastern New Mexico & gusty before weekend rain – A strong cold front moves through New Mexico Friday, bringing very windy weather all day. Warmer weather returns through the weekend with increasing rain chances next week. The cold front will keep windy weather around into the afternoon with much cooler air.
