VANCOUVER, Wash. (KPTV) – Notifications to employees affected by budget cuts in Vancouver Public Schools began last week and are expected to continue through early April, district officials said.
The layoffs follow the school board’s March 10 approval of Resolution No. 941, which adopts a reduced educational program plan for the 2026-27 school year. The plan includes about $24 million in cuts aimed at stabilizing the district’s budget, with staffing reductions making up a significant portion.
District leaders said they first reduced non-personnel costs, including program closures, contacts and purchases, before moving to staffing cuts. However, because most of the budget supports classroom services, officials said some school-based positions could not be spared…
