BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the driver who died after running a stop sign and hitting a semi-truck on Bear Mountain Boulevard in January as 21-year-old Nathaniel Xzavier Onsurez.
The California Highway Patrol said on January 7, 2026, at around 9:12 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Bear Mountain Boulevard and Wible Road for a report of a crash involving the two vehicles.
CHP’s investigation found that Onsurez was driving a 2011 blue Honda CRV southbound on Wible Road at a high rate of speed, and approaching the stop sign at Bear Mountain Boulevard. At the same time, a Fresno man was driving a Freightliner westbound on Bear Mountain Boulevard at around 55 miles per hour.
As the driver of the Freightliner headed west, the driver of the Honda failed to stop at the stop sign and went through the intersection. The front end of the Honda crashed into the right side of the Freightliner’s semi-trailer, according to CHP…
