The Rocket City has been bracing for the arrival of the U.S. Space Command headquarters since the announcement last fall that the operations would move to Huntsville from Colorado Springs.
An announcement yesterday from Space Command head Gen. Stephen Whiting to the Senate Armed Services Committee indicated that the timeline for the facility’s official move to Redstone Arsenal includes a 2031 opening, with a groundbreaking sometime next year.

Whiting said the timeline for the new facility includes five years of construction, with an additional year for moving in personnel.
Whiting also said the number of SPACECOMM personnel in Huntsville would reach about 200 by the end of this year. Those employees will work out of temporary facilities, including a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility set to open in April…
