MADISON, Ala. (WAFF) – Madison Utilities, in a press release, says a contractor’s payment was fraudulently intercepted in an incident reported by Wells Fargo. The Automated Clearing House (ACH) payment was intercepted March 24 and was intended for work on an active MU capital project.
The utility says the issue is limited to one transaction and does not compromise customer account information, customer payments, or the security of its systems.
Madison Utilities reported the incident to the appropriate authorities. The matter is under investigation, and MU says it is working with its financial institution and officials to address the situation and strengthen safeguards to help prevent future incidents…
