Officials in Palm City, Fla., have rescued a bald eagle that landed in a canal that’s home to some large alligators.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is calling the rescue a “majestic save.” In a Facebook post, they explained the bald eagle crash-landed in a civilian’s yard in the Stuart West/Cobblestone community. Then, once it tried to take flight again, it found itself in the canal and in desperate need of saving.

A resident, who witnessed the incident, called the Sheriff’s Office, who got Animal Services involved. It was then that Animal Services Officer Shannon McGee and Corporal William Weiss waded into the water to retrieve the eagle.

However, as the eagle struggled, it began moving farther out into the water. With patience, the team was able to safely rescue the bird and bring it back to shore, out of immediate danger…
