Katz’s Never Kloses has a long history in Austin, serving the area for more than thirty years. However, it has now been absent for about 14 years, operating several locations in Houston but none in the Austin area. Now, that absence will soon come to a close, as Austin Texas Things reported back in December.
Even better: Katz’s is reopening in its original home, at 618 West Sixth Street.
“The original Katz’s opened in 1979 and quickly became the heart of West 6th’s nightlife scene, a role chronicled by local outlets like the Austin American‑Statesman and Austin Business Journal,” said the Austin Texas Things coverage. “It stayed packed until 2011, when Marc Katz closed the restaurant after financial struggles and ongoing parking issues that eventually led to a bankruptcy filing.
