LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – KLFY’s Veterans Voices honors Don Reber, a four-year Army veteran who served in the Army Security Agency during the Vietnam War.
Reber was part of a specialized 12-man group that developed more than 85% of all military intelligence gathered during the Vietnam War. Reber, who served with the 146th Aviation Company, earned a Bronze Star and 33 air medals for his role in locating enemy forces.
Reber’s service involved top-secret missions that required a high-level national security background check. After receiving training in electronic surveillance and Morse code copying at Fort Devens, he was deployed to Phu Bai and Saigon. His work focused on using small aircraft to identify and fix the locations of enemy personnel, a role he described as lifesaving for U.S. troops on the ground…
