ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Neighbors were rattled Thursday evening as a Little League field near their homes caught fire. And people in the area said this isn’t the first fire they’ve seen something like this.
Residents who live next to the Atrisco Little League said Thursday’s fire started quickly and grew within minutes. Albuquerque Fire Rescue said they got this fire under control quickly. Around 5:30 pm, AFR said they got word of the fire burning near Atrisco Drive and Central Ave. About 35 firefighters responded to Atrisco Park, where a Little League team was practicing. AFR said homes were in danger, but they were able to extinguish the fire within an hour.
Deborah Alfaro, a nearby neighbor, said she has seen several fires taking out plants in her fence. “We have a lot of homeless bringing trash in, um, and lighting fires to keep warm. I get it, but it’s out of control. Then the wind shifts it, and it’s burning neighbors’ grass, our backyard, and it’s just been, um, a challenge trying to stop them from building fires,” said Alfaro…
