Family of slain Gainesville man issues statement after Mericle found guilty

The family of a Gainesville man who was killed by his long-time girlfriend in 2025 has issued a statement one day after the woman was found guilty of charges, including murder.

Suzanne Mericle was found guilty in Hall County Superior Court on Friday, Mar. 27, of felony murder, criminal damage to property, reckless conduct and tampering with evidence for the Mar. 8, 2025, shooting death of James David Barron, age 68. The two had been living in a home on Bayridge Drive near Lake Lanier.

Mericle was found not guilty on malice murder and aggravated assault charges.
