FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The actor who played Ponyboy Curtis in the 1983 film adaptation of “The Outsiders” is using an iconic line from the classic story to encourage young scholars to get involved in the arts.
C. Thomas Howell visited Fort Wayne on Thursday to forward the mission of his Stay Gold Foundation, which provides free copies of S. E. Hinton’s 1967 novel to spark interest in literacy and education. The book spreads a message of the power of friendship and kindness, which culminates with a character telling his friend, “Stay gold, Ponyboy,” despite the harsh environment they lived in.
A fundraiser for the foundation was held Thursday evening at Homestead High School. Howell met fans and did a Q&A that was followed by a screening of “The Outsiders.”…
