Early morning fire in Richland County damages three homes, sends firefighter to hospital

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — An early-morning fire in Richland County has left three homes damaged, seven people displaced and one firefighter recovering at an area hospital, authorities say.

The Columbia-Richland Fire Department said high winds and quickly changing conditions complicated efforts to battle a two-alarm fire that damaged three homes on Summit Terrace Court, where firefighters arrived around 2 a.m. to find one home already burning heavily.

Fire officials said the flames were already spreading to two neighboring homes when they arrived, and one person had jumped from the second floor of one of the homes. Another person had to be rescued from the same home…
