Parents at a South Florida middle school are disgruntled after a sulfur-like smell disrupted academic hours and even sent some kids home with symptoms, per local news reports.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, March 25, at Hidden Oaks Middle School in Palm City, Fla., when an “unpleasant odor… lingered into some buildings,” according to an initial alert to the school community. At the time, school officials said the smell came from a “non-toxic spray” used by maintenance crews conducting a routine roof cleaning, according to the alert.

However, later in the day, the school’s principal, Christopher Forte, revealed that the smell actually emanated from a portable restroom “that is part of an ongoing roofing project.”…
