The Odem Owls turned in multiple top-20 performances and secured a mid-pack team finish Friday at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association Division 3 state meet in Abilene.
Leading the way for the Owls was Albert Gonzales, who earned a seventh-place finish in the 275-pound weight class with a total of 1,740 pounds. Gonzales posted lifts of 640 pounds in the squat, 550 pounds in the bench press and 550 pounds in the deadlift.
Odem also received contributions in the 165-pound division, where Martin Castillo placed 12th overall with a 1,405-pound total, recording lifts of 550 pounds in the squat, 385 pounds in the bench press and 470 pounds in the deadlift. Teammate Isaac Romero finished 15th in the same class with a 1,375-pound total, highlighted by lifts of 520 pounds in the squat, 355 pounds in the bench press and 500 pounds in the deadlift…
