Volunteers plant 1,200 purple tulips near future home of Stella’s Playground in honor of 9-year-old brain cancer survivor

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — On Saturday, March 28, dozens of volunteers headed to Milwaukee’s Kilbourn Reservoir Park to plant a small field of purple tulips.

It’s all in honor of Stella Schneider, a nine-year-old (soon to be 10!) brain cancer survivor, whose favorite color is purple.

The 1,200 bulbs, gifted from a donor, are now placed near the site of what will become Stella’s Playground — the city’s first universally accessible and inclusive playground featuring mobility device-friendly surfaces and pathways.

“Of course, slides, of course, monkey bars,” Stella told CBS 58’s Ellie Nakamoto-White. “I feel so good about this.”…
