Here’s where Wendy’s and White Castle rank on best fast food burger list

Ohio-based burger chains Wendy’s and White Castle both stand out from the competition, Wendy’s for its fresh patties and White Castle for its mini sliders. But neither ranked highly on Tasting Table’s 2025 list of 21 popular American burger chains, which shared spots that are — or aren’t — worth a visit.

While fast-food rivalries, including the viral hamburger CEO wars, often play out online, competition among burger chains remains fierce. Here’s how each chain fared in Tasting Table’s ranking.

Ohio-based Wendy’s and White Castle land near bottom of burger chain ranking

Dublin, Ohio-based Wendy’s ranked No. 16, with Tasting Table citing Reddit posts that criticized the chain’s quality of ingredients in recent years. One Reddit user criticized Wendy’s menu shift, writing, “They messed it up for me when they went away from their square patties and tried to make a more ‘gourmet’ burger.'” Another commenter pointed to declining quality in other menu items: “Their spicy chicken sandwich used to be top tier. The last one I had a couple months ago was no better than a dull, processed white-meat patty.”

Still, Wendy’s ranked higher than McDonald’s at No. 17 and Burger King at No. 19, both of which the publication said had less-than-stellar ingredient quality. Wendy’s remains one of the most valuable restaurant brands in the world and a favorite among many fast food fans…
