Henderson Police Announce New Rules for Special Purpose Vehicles on City Roads

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEVV) — The Henderson Police Department is alerting residents to changes in state law that now allow certain special purpose vehicles, such as ATVs, to operate on city roadways—but only after meeting strict requirements.

Officials emphasized that these vehicles are not automatically considered “street legal.” Before being driven on public roads, each vehicle must pass a safety inspection, meet all legal requirements, and be properly licensed and insured. The city has also provided an informational video outlining the inspection process and necessary steps for compliance.

Importantly, golf carts are not included in the updated law and remain prohibited on Henderson city streets. Authorities pointed residents to KRS 186.077 and local ordinances for further clarification…
