A late-night collision just west of Hawthorne’s city limits left a local woman dead and an 18-year-old man clinging to life early Saturday, after what troopers describe as an offset head-on crash on County Road 2082. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 12:20 a.m. when a pickup truck crossed the center line on the rural two-lane road and slammed into the woman’s sedan. The woman, who was in her 40s and from Hawthorne, died at the scene. The Interlachen teen driving the pickup was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
