A burn ban is now in effect across unincorporated Cabarrus County, including Midland, Mt. Pleasant, and the Cabarrus portion of Locust, starting 6 p.m. on March 28, 2026. The ban, issued by Fire Marshal Jacob Thompson, prohibits open burning within 100 feet of any structure. This includes burning leaves, branches, bonfires, and outdoor fireplaces.
Cooking fires such as grills and outdoor cookers are still allowed. All previously issued burn permits are invalid, and new permits will not be issued until further notice. Violations may result in citations or fines…
