Springfield Public Schools bracing for lean budgets amid Proposition C funding changes

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Leaders at Missouri’s largest school district are working through what could be some difficult budget years. The way that the state pays for schools is changing.

Springfield Public Schools leaders say the next few fiscal years could get tight for districts across the state, and SPS is planning accordingly.

“I recently attended a [Missouri Association of School Administrators] budget workshop, and one of the comments that was made was that the next two years of budgeting for school districts are going to be some of the hardest that we’ve seen in recent history,” said Cara Stassel, SPS’s Executive Director of Business Services, at Tuesday’s school board meeting…
