Chandler renames Chavez events amid scandal

Like many others, the City of Chandler is distancing itself from labor rights activist César Chávez after accusations that he sexually abused girls and raped a woman.

“Chandler is proceeding with the Noche Iluminada and For Our City Day events this weekend,” the city said in a March 19 statement. César Chávez’s name has been removed from both events. The César Chávez Foundation will not be attending either event as well.”

Noche Illuminada, which was scheduled for March 20, is a night of culture, art, music and community connection with live performances. For Our City Day was March 21 and gave city staff and residents a chance to volunteer to improve one neighborhood.
