Wahiawā Dam to be transferred to state control at no cost: Dole

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Dole Food Company announced that the state Board of Land and Natural Resources will acquire the Wahiawā Irrigation System, which includes the Wahiawā Dam.

The announcement came on March 27 in a statement from William Goldfield, Dole’s director of corporate communications.

In the statement, Goldfield said that the dam would be transferred to the state at no cost.

“Dole Foods Hawaiʻi is extremely pleased with the outcome of the Board of Land and Natural Resources action to acquire the Wahiawā Irrigation System, and we extend our gratitude to the DLNR staff for their years of work to get us to this important day,” Goldfield said in a statement. “Dole is proud to transfer this vital resource to the State of Hawaiʻi at no cost, ensuring its continued use and stewardship in support of agriculture and the broader community.”…
