MEDINA, Ohio – As part-time laborer positions within the parks department are becoming increasingly difficult to fill, the city is looking to amend the salaries and benefits code by transitioning two part-time laborer positions into one full-time position.
“Our department is allocated six part-time laborers so this would take us down to four part-time positions,” Parks and Recreation Director Jansen Wehrley said. “Especially during peak season, which is from right about now until October, we have many special events on the square and at other parks, so we need staff essentially seven days a week. It has become harder to staff the weekends, and our maintenance technician and our current full-time laborer are splitting the overtime often with well over 100 hours of overtime per pay period.”
Wehrley said adding the full-time position would not only cut down on overtime but would mean a full-time employee with institutional knowledge would be available on weekends to help out if any issues arise during special events…
