Car crashes into community outreach center in Clifton Park

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A community outreach center in Clifton Park was heavily damaged on Sunday after a car drove through the front of its building. Services at Cheryl’s Lodge Outreach Center, operated by CAPTAIN Community Human Services and located on Fern Lane, will reportedly be disrupted for the coming weeks.

According to executive director Scott DeMarco, the crash happened around 10 a.m. when an individual arriving to attend a community meeting drove their car into the building. Although there were people inside the facility at the time, no injuries were reported.

Following an investigation by police, officials said they believe the incident was an accident.

“The police and first responders came, and the firefighters, and they assessed the situation and said they didn’t see any evidence of any wrongdoing or anything like that, so I think it was just an accident,” DeMarco said.

The organization has reportedly placed an insurance claim for the building damages. DeMarco said the community has also come together to help the center begin repairs.
