As part of the “Becoming America 250” project by Women Building Peace, Stitch Buffalo is inviting the community to participate in the creation of a new large-scale work of textile art. The community-building exercise is the perfect way to bring people together, to flex their artistic muscle, while participating in the creation of a meaningful work of art that will second as a resounding message. The artistic message – to be shared online as a well as to be potentially showcased at an exhibit in Washington, DC, hosted by Women Building Peace – will pay tribute to the women that have helped to shape America. The textile art piece will also reflect the sentiments of the participants, by visually decrying the directions that we should be heading as a nation.
“As America approaches its 250th anniversary, we are launching a nationwide invitation to honor the women who helped shape our country and to imagine what comes next. Inspired by the enduring ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, we are asking one simple question: What is your hope for America?”
Prompts for this artwork might include:
